What are futures?
Futures are financial contracts which have a predetermined transaction date and price. Therefore, when traders exchange futures contracts they are speculating on the direction of price movement for a given asset. If someone were to purchase a futures contract for $25.40 and the price shifts upward to $25.60 by the predetermined date they would be saving $0.20 on that asset. Examples of assets for which a futures contract could be arranged include metals, indices, energies and currencies.
Futures markets typically use high leverage, which means that investors do not need to deposit the full value of the contract.
Traders can speculate on price movements to make a profit, whether it be an upward or downward trend.

CFD Futures trading example
